Independent Variable: Cleaning solution used to clean baseball pants.
Dependent Variable: The cleanliness of the baseball pants. I will determine the cleanliness of the pants by looking at the pants and which has less or no stains and the visibility of the stains.
Hypothesis: If I use lemon juice as a cleaning solution for the dirty pants, then the cleanliness of the baseball pants will be the best because of the acid in the lemon juice.
Materials: Five baseball pants cut in half, 1/4 cup lemon juice per pant half, 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar per pant half, 1/4 cup Tide per pant half, 1/4 cup Clorox per pant half, 1/4 cup plain water per pant half, a washing machine and 1/2 cup of dirt per pant half.
Procedure:
1. Cut five baseball pants in half. Ten halves will be used.
2. Label each of the baseball pants halves.
3. Rub 1/2 cup of dirt on each of the baseball pants halves.
4. Let each half dry in the sun for 2 hours once the dirt is on the halves.
5. Put each half in the washing machine one at a time.
6. All halves washed in cold water and solution, except for water only half for 43 minutes.
7. Put one cleaning solution with a half.
8. Record the states of the halves before it goes into the washer.
9. Once this half is completed washing, record observations of its state.
10. Repeat these steps for the other halves with the other cleaning solutions.
11. Get the five other baseball pants halves and repeat steps in same order.
